Since 2012, Dr. Puranda has been speaking life into adolescents and young adults, motivating students in schools, universities, community organizations, and nonprofits across the country. The kids call him Dr. P and what makes him a true champion for youth is his authenticity. He’s relatable. He’s real. And he’s lived the struggles many of them have faced.

 

Dr. P was once that student who struggled in school… always angry, always fighting, constantly suspended, expelled and held back twice. Everything changed when a school security officer encouraged him to channel that anger onto the football field and he did. Kareem excelled, became team captain, and led his school to its first winning season since the 1970s. For the first time, he felt seen. His grades improved, he attended summer school and night school, and ultimately earned a scholarship to an HBCU in North Carolina. Leaving his “hood” opened his eyes to a world he never knew existed.

 

After college, Kareem served in several roles as a police officer, but it was his time as a School Resource Officer that changed everything. That’s where Officer Puranda discovered his true calling. He used his own story of struggles, turnaround, and triumphs to connect with students on a deeper level. He helped shift school culture, encouraged teachers to see beyond “bad behavior,” and reminded everyone that every child carries potential waiting to be unlocked.

 

Today, Dr. P encourages youth to rise above their circumstances and chase their goals with confidence. He empowers young people to believe in themselves, think independently, and use their natural gifts and talents to impact the world. Dr. P message transforms doubt into confidence, struggle into strength, and hopelessness into hope.
